The cultured marble shower floor in this Northwest Austin master bathroom cracked and needed to be replaced. This seemed like a good opportunity to replace the brass fixtures the homeowners had always hated.  Then they thought, “if we’re going to do this much, why not take the opportunity to make a few upgrades and really personalize the space as well?”

Room Fu’s home improvement plan begins with a backsplash design of penny tiles and metal liners that pick up the colors and patterns in the existing floor and cultured marble tub. An elegant travertine-style Silestone counter, luxuriously framed mirror, and platinum-finish fixtures further update the double vanity.

Fresh paint in fun, cheerful colors reflects the couple’s style much more than the builder beige they’ve lived with for too long. A roman shade in contemporary embroidered silk replaces outdated blinds and adds a bit of luxury to the window. A coordinating penny tile and pewter backsplash is installed around the tub, and when a defect in the original flooring is discovered, the floor gets a facelift as well..

The shower is completely transformed with a bold penny tile and pewter border and plenty of niches for toiletries.
