Sun-filled Living Room

Skylights and a plaster-like texture covering the fireplace are two small changes implemented by this Room Fu interior makeover that make a world of a difference to this Barton Hills living room in Austin, Texas. Capitalizing on the homeowner’s love for her existing red wall, the new design brings more red onto the adjoining wall, making the soft creamy color of the updated fireplace really pop. A shelving unit with clean lines moves from behind the sofa to where a bulky 70s-era armoire once lived, creating a more open view at eye level. Although there is more seating in the room than before with the addition of a second chair, the room actually feels less cluttered due to the softer, low-contrast patterns on new upholstered furniture and the pale, creamy tones of a new rug. A room that once was dark, dreary, and visually cluttered is now bright, airy, and up-to-date.
